Month 11

Further Research on Rosemary

Month 11 has some time off for me from teaching, and I have become more curious about Rosemary. In particular, I have wondered about getting a ground version for more thorough ingestion of the ursolic acid it has been meant to replace.  But the closer I have looked at Rosemary, the more I learn.

From the last report, I came up with the following analysis:

The UA supplement costs $18 for 30 doses of 300 mg of UA = 9 grams for $18 = $2/gram

Rosemary Extract costs $13 for 60 doses 500mg at 6% and then 50% of that = 0.9 grams or $14 a gram.

Rosemary Flower costs $7.40 for 227 grams at average 5% UA = 11 grams =$0.67/gram

So the Rosemary Flower comes in at the least expensive. Even at the low 3% amount the cost is $1.09/gram.  And the high reported level at 7% is $0.47/gram.

Updated Analysis

I did find a few ground versions of rosemary, and chefs liked it because it saved them time.  The price was still around the other Rosemary Flower products, but then I ran across one where if I bought 2 pounds of the unground Rosemary, I could get that for $21.

So I ordered that and I am using that now. I grind it up one Ninja at a time and store in a glass bottle. What an intoxicating smell. Two heaping teaspoons during my morning routine. I put that, the black pepper, and the flaxseed into a bowel, and mix in the 4 oz of Pomegranate juice to make an awesome slurry. Two swigs of the cranberry juice which is so mad sour, it makes the slurry seem almost sweet.

That gives me another analysis: This new Rosemary Flower costs $21 for 908 grams at average 5% UA = 44 grams =$0.48/gram.

I also took this opportunity to get out my Ninja blender (any blender that chops up dry leaves well will do), and grind up the remaining part of a jar of Rosemary.  Results were good, and I am taking a heaping tablespoon every morning, and sometimes another heaping tablespoon at night with my second regiment of supplements.

Further research into Rosemary yielded information on Rosmarinic Acid and Carnosic Acid. While I did not see much research into Rosmarinic Acid with respect to Prostate Cancer, I did see a lot (856 for 2024 alone!) on how helpful Carnosic Acid is in my fight against Prostate Cancer. One summary article in particular published in 2024 is available here. A second article states that Carnosic Acid in concentrations of only 5uM was sufficient to stop PC cell growth, and at 30uM was sufficient to kill CA cells. This second article discusses the causes of cancer as DNA mutations that promote uncontrollable growth while a cell loses its ability to kill itself. It also mentioned epigenetic causes, or reversible re-functioning of the DNA owing to malnutrition and other factors.  These causes are reversible just by changing what I consume. To me this is a big deal. Does this have anything to do with inappropriate protein folding? If so I like to think I understand the mechanics of proper protein folding and the difference in biochemical reactions that can occur. More of that please.

Reexamining Hops

As month 11 begins to come to a close, I return to hops, which I have been taking for the last 2 months or so for its ursolic acid. I am zeroing in on the xanthohumol.

Xanthohumol is in low concentrations in the hops, as xanthohumol looks to be a major reason why hops is effective.  So I find an xanthohumol supplement and incorporate it into my regiment.  WoW that one is expensive, but you know what? I still have my prostate and all that that means to me. I can back away from expensive supplements if and when I see a tumor in remission, meaning a tumor no longer increases in size.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. OMG tomorrow morning is the next PSA test. I might say wish me luck, but I know that it has very little to do with luck, and I believe it has mostly everything to do with what I have been up to over these last few months.

Discovering Black Cumin Seed Oil

And as month 11 actually does come to a close, Thanksgiving Day company has a surprise for me as I more than casually mention what I have been up to nutritionally. “Have you tried Black Cumin Seed Oil ?” I look it up on my phone, and I see it contains nigella sativa. Preliminary analysis seems positive. I will do more research when I return home.

And now on Black Friday, I have returned from my 6:40 am PSA blood test appointment, so I suppose Month 12 will begin with my reporting out on my latest PSA score. Can I continue to drop the PSA number? I certainly have continued the previous course of action as well as added a few new PC fighting ingredients.

Closing Thoughts

In summary:

  • Revisiting research topics confirms prior knowledge and can lead to other things.
  • Rosemary contains Rosmarinic Acid and Carnosic Acid, as well as Ursolic Acid
  • Carnosic Acid is another well-researched and strong fighter of Prostate Cancer as well as other cancers.
  • A two pound Rosemary flower bucket is my new and improved alternative to a UA supplement. But I continue to take the UA supplement as I flood my body with UA.
    • Two pounds of Rosemary is 33% less expensive, and I get 2% Carnosic Acid.
  • Next PSA happened at the end of the month, and next month I will report out.
    • Almost 11 months will have passed; can I get below 3.3?

  1. You’re a great success story of what happens when an intelligent person goes all in on researching natural therapies and then testing them on himself. I look forward to following your journey. I’m 65 and had 4+3s and 7.7 PSA which spiked to 9 a couple of months later. Pet PSMA showed no spread. I started Apigenin, Sulfuraphane, Turkey Tail mushroom, Tumeric, Vt. D + K, and cut back on the meat and wine, despite already being a low consumer of those. (Since that time I’ve added Grape Seed Extract and Fucodian–check that one out!). I researched all these through the National Library of Medicine. My PSA dropped back down to 7.6. But because I had a few cores with 4+3 and several others with 3+4, I chose to have radiation and 6 months of ADT through Memorial Sloane Kettering at Basking Ridge over the summer. My PSA dropped to .05 and the only side effect I’ve had so far had were hot flashes from the ADT. Now I plan to follow some of your regimen and do whatever else I can to eliminate the cancer and avoid an recurrance. Thank you for communicating your process and outcomes. They’re very valuable to people like me.

  2. Thank you for your kind words. I wish you the best on your journey toward good health.

  3. 2.45 your latest result!! Amazing.
I read through all your monthly reports, am I correct and no use of repurposed drugs?

I’m 59yrs & on Active Surveillance for the past 4 years, PSA six monthly, two MRIs (one recent), two biopsies with different urologists early on – they both reported as 3+3=6 score, but there is high volume.

Initially at diagnosis PSA was 3.0 then down as low as 2.7, then the most recent scores have been 3.0, 3.3, last week’s 3.68. Next May I am scheduled another PSA and possibly another biopsy has been mentioned. But the recent three consecutive PSA increases has me wondering about whether I’m just kicking the can down the road before the inevitable radical treatment. My father had prostate cancer at the same age, eventually having it out, still alive today at 87 but he is incontinent quite a bit.
I had been considering trying to obtain the repurposed drug Ivermectin after seeing a couple of studies for prostate cancer, but only in vitro. I spoke to my urologist but he was against that. Said there was potential for long term unknown toxic side effects. TBH, given the 40yr+ very safe history of the drug I don’t think that’s a good reason not to try it. But no doubt, there are protocols around what a doctor can prescribe for repurposed drugs. And they are not sold over the counter here in Australia.
Given my 3+3 score, his recommendation was simply keep a good diet & exercise, both of which he said show benefit. I am fit, play a lot of sport, am average weight, but diet is not very good. Too much sugar.
Your remarkable 11 months of self treatment is inspiring to follow your path, particularly whilst I’m still on AS. As much as I’d prefer a simple repurposed pill without the effort!!!…. 🙂
All of what you have done so far no doubt has enormous health benefits to stop other diseases.
    Well done again.
    Thanks for publishing your journey.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement. I am unfamiliar with the term “repurposed drugs”. I looked it up and it seems marketing in nature. The suppliments and foods I am taking are seen here month to month. I don’t know which were originally purposed for what reason. I merely researched something found to be healthy (say pomegranates), studied its makeup with respect to effective fighting PC (pomegranate seed oil) and then dove into the biochemistry (punicic acid) to try to get to the heart of the matter at the molecular level. Thanks again for all your detailed information. I never know when the next piece of information will come in handy.

  4. What I meant by repurposed drug was a pharmaceutical drug as apposed to supplements like pomegranate seed oil.

Ivermectin is one of those drugs.

    1. Thank you for your clear definition. So no, I am not using any repurposed drugs. For whatever reason, the research I come across has not been addressing this.

  5. Did they get your MRI scheduled for this month? I’m eagerly looking forward to hearing how that turns out – good luck!

    1. Slightly booked up. Jan 6th is the MRI. Today is the Telehealth Appt. with my Urologist. Have to get my list of questions printed so I have them with me.

      1. Today is my first urologist appointment after my MRI about 3 weeks ago which found a PI-RADS 4.

        1. Good Luck. I had my latest Urology appointment on the Dec 12. I summarized it in my first cut Month 12 post. Again, best of luck.

Hi. Great and interesting read. What was your Black Friday PSA? I saw a comment with 2.45 but not from you. If so, fantastic.

Question. Are you putting too much belief in PSA scores? Assuming a lower score is no cancer growth or progression? Is this a trust worthy and accurate method to know you are stopping prostate cancer growth? How accurate do you really think your psa scores are and does it even matter when they are high relative to 1 or so? Any thoughts on this topic are appreciated

    1. The Black Friday PSA of 2.45 is mine ! From 6.4 to 4.7 to 3.3 to 2.45 in 11 months ! Thanks for the encouragement.

Your Question is an excellent one. PSA is all I have to go on as well as the opinions of my doctors until my second MRI on January 6th. I just published my Month 12 with all the details. When I get the MRI results, I will put out and early version of Month 13.

Such a great though process, so many unknowns..
You have not talked about resistance training and other exercise that also has same effect as supplements.

Did you track your testosterone over the last 12 months?
Dr Kwon mentioned in one of his interviews that a stable testosterone is needed to accurately compare psa test results..
Like others I await Mri that shows decrease in tumor size!
PSA as you know is not a reliable indicator of actual cancer activity. PSMA pet is best, Pelvic mri more detailed in pelvic area.

    1. Thank you for your input. I swim some, about 1/2 to 1 mile, twice a week. I pedal a stationary bike twice a week for 1/2 hour. My testosterone has remained steady at about 310 for the last 9 months. This is above my baseline of 170 before I started taking testosterone therapy 7 years ago. I stopped that a year ago. And, WoW ! There are others expecting a reduction in tumor size owing to just diet and supplements? You might be one of them? Is your story similar to mine? I just got my MRI slotted for Dec 31 due to another’s cancellation, so cautiously optimistic with one week earlier appointment. My doctor expects a tumor reduction and then no need for another biopsy. I hope he is right. We.Shall.See.

  8. Congrats!

Did you continue eating Tofu throughout those 11 months? and how much?

If yes, did it affect your testosterone?

    1. yes, Tofu throughout. I tried to eat between 30 and 60 grams a day
